8 first-hand accounts of UFO sightings in Horry County

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Do you ever feel like… someone is looking at you?

Or maybe several people? Aliens, maybe?

For some reason – you can choose your own theory – the Myrtle Beach area has been a hotspot for UFO sightings for years.

Spotted in a government database that keeps the identities of anonymous witnesses, dozens of stories tell of first-hand experiences with mysteries in the sky. Some stories are from tourists. Others identify as former soldiers, cosmos enthusiasts or retired law enforcement officers.

“I go to air shows,” reads one entry. “I am a fan of military aviation and I can identify planes as I see them overhead. Not being able to explain this annoys me. I don’t believe in UFOs. I still don’t. However, there is video footage online that is very similar to what I have seen. “

Dozens of encounters in the Grand Strand have been recorded in the database, with 66 entries since 2019. Some sightings can be traced to space launches, fireworks, or drones, but we’re up to you.

Here are some accounts of UFO encounters over the past few years in the region. The summaries have been edited for length and clarity:

It was 9 pm and my whole family was sitting on the balcony of a resort. The sky was beautiful, it was almost a full moon. I looked up and noticed two orange orb lights (color of a fire). I said to my husband, “Look! What is it? “When I told my husband to look, a third orb appeared. The first two lights would have formed a horizontal line if you had drawn a line connecting them. The third was in below the first two and slightly to the right.

As soon as my husband saw them the third light was gone and then the other two were gone too.

I told my family: “It was a UFO!” I can be very open-minded to this stuff and sometimes I like to watch shows about UFOs and Bigfoot when they’re on. My husband is quite the opposite! He can find a logical explanation for anything. We both have a college education and make a good living.

The point of saying it’s to let anyone reading this is… my husband even thought it was weird and wasn’t trying to explain it!

Last night while watching Netflix, I observed an orange light flashing outside my oceanfront condo. When it started again, I got up and grabbed my binoculars and iPhone to take a picture. . I could see many lights above the ocean, but through the binoculars I could see that some of the lights were moving very irregularly and changing color just as quickly.

I took a photo, and when you zoom it in, you can see that one of the lights is red in color and seems to have energy coming from it. The UFOs were there for more than 40 minutes.

I was on the balcony of my beachfront hotel room observing the constellation Orion in the northeast sky when I saw four distinct orange orbs / spheres lined up in a haze / aura or back- opaque / cloudy shot of a larger figure that appeared over the ocean. They crossed the sky and seemed to be approaching the beach when they quickly accelerated, rushed to my left and its light abruptly went out.

A few minutes later, they abruptly reappeared over the ocean, where they hovered and then headed for the beach before accelerating and turning sharply. Their light went out again. The vehicle made no noise.

I spent 10 years in the Navy working in special intelligence and crypto communities, and I also spent three years at sea on an aircraft carrier, so I am very familiar with military planes and ships and Navy ships.

I was driving east on Highway 501 when a large formation of shiny orb-like balls formed a perfect elliptical shape. He rotated and maintained that shape while appearing to rotate along a perfect path. These orbs were about the distance of a low-flying helicopter. Far too big to be drones. As he spun, each orb would disappear one by one and he was gone.

I was at the swimming pool. Clear weather, no clouds. I saw an object very high in the sky and took my binoculars.

I saw a big cylinder floating in the sky. It looked metallic and had a very bright flashing light on top, or a mirror reflecting the sun. I watched it for 20 minutes until it floated behind the trees. No exhaust, no strings, no wings, no sound.

I was sitting on the balcony of an ocean view resort in North Myrtle Beach at 9:30 PM. It was a perfectly clear night. The Moon and the Pole Star appear tiny compared to what I have witnessed.

A bright white star shone in the sky far above the ocean. He had no sound. It flashed horizontally from left to right several times, leaving a bright white trail between where it started and where it stopped. He left a star on each side when he stopped at the exact same distance each time. I had the impression he was scanning something. Then it stopped exactly to the left where it first appeared with the same huge white bright star light, and vanished as quickly as it appeared. Within seconds, a shooting star left a small trail of red / blue / green exhaustion.

My family was on vacation watching fireworks from the balcony of an oceanfront condo when we saw a bright red-orange light in the sky. It was a vertical cigar shape that pulsed. It was watched for about 15 seconds and then slowly started to shrink until it disappeared. He was much bigger than the stars and nothing appeared after he disappeared.

I saw an orange / fiery glowing object in the sky. I was driving home from work and I love looking at Venus. I noticed it was cloudy so I couldn’t really see a lot of stars, but Venus is getting pretty bright, so I look anyway and approach a large field.

While driving I notice a shiny object that looks like a plane on fire, so I panicked a bit, but then noticed that the vehicle in front of me had shattered as if they were seeing what I was seeing. had seen.

I look up and this thing is definitely heading for my job, down 319, across the sky, so I had to focus on the road even though I slowed down from 55mph to 35mph to make sure that I wasn’t crazy. After that, I slowly accelerated and looked behind me to see that I could no longer see this object in the sky. That’s when I had to really think about what I had just seen because I didn’t even hear the sound of when I rolled down my window.
