To provide a holistic learning experience, students on the course follow a series of structured lesson plans, tutorials, case studies, hands-on computing, individual projects and guest lectures. Course delivery involves a 40% weighting given to taught modules (students must complete eight compulsory modules); 20 percent weighting given to group projects and the remaining 40 percent for an individual research project. Some of the course modules include Advanced Composite Analysis and Impact; Introduction to Continuum Mechanics; Thin-walled structures; Advanced simulation for impact, among others.
Through the course, graduates can learn how to solve industry challenges to gain weight; understand how advanced lightweight metallic and composite materials and structures perform under static and dynamic loads, including collisions and bird strikes. They gain knowledge and skills in design and analysis that help them address sustainability and carbon emission reduction issues in structural designs for automobiles, aircraft, and wind turbines without compromising structural reliability and safety. .
In addition, students on the Advanced Masters in Lightweight and Composite Structures course also have the opportunity to participate in industry-sponsored group or individual projects. This helps them apply their learning in practice, gain hands-on problem-solving experience and strengthen their future career opportunities.

To apply for the course, interested applicants should have a UK First or Second Class Honors degree or equivalent in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or an engineering discipline.
