Jason Sutton, program director for steel fabrication and assembly in the Newport News Shipbuilding division of Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII), has been appointed chief information officer within the same division.
He will succeed Brian Fields, who held the position of CIO while also serving as Director of Transformation and will move to a new role as Vice President of Aircraft Carriers Enterprise (CVN 80) and Doris Miller. (CVN 81), the company said on Friday.
Sutton to report to Bharat Amin, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer of HII, for IT and Cyber ââSecurity activities, as he helps Newport News achieve its strategic goals and set its IT priorities .

Sutton will also report to Jennifer Boykin, President of Newport News Shipbuilding, and help build teams by leading HII’s corporate IT and cybersecurity leadership change model.

Sutton began his career at Newport News in 2018 as Director of Operations after serving for more than two decades in the US Air Force, where he held tactical and strategic leadership positions in IT and cyberspace operations. He retired from military service as CIO and Director of Communications for Air Combat Command.
