Obituary of Lorenz Haselhofer (1935 – 2021) – Gilroy, CA

Lorenz D. Haselhofer was born on September 2, 1935 and died on October 13, 2021.

He was born and raised in Watsonville, California, and grew up working with his brother and three sisters at the family apple ranch.

In 1955, he joined the Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock in the Pacific Theater for two years. After being laid off, Loren took a job with Burke Rubber Company in San Jose where he worked for several years. He then joined IBM, where he retired after 25 years as a senior designer.

While at Burke, he met and married his wife, Vonia, who was the love of his life and his partner in all things for the next 58 years. They had two children, Susan and James, who eventually settled in Gilroy, California after starting their life together in San Jose.

Throughout his life, Loren pursued several hobbies, including a lifelong passion for airplanes, especially warbirds from WWII. He also enjoyed working on his property, reading and making music. An avid hiker, Loren spent weeks on the trails of the Sierra Nevada each year, especially in the Yosemite and Mammoth Lakes areas.

Loren is survived by his wife Vonia, his children Susan Cheu (stepson Steven) and his son James (stepdaughter Jennifer), his grandson Christian, his brother Gene and his sister Lois, as well as many nieces.
