KUANTAN (July 1): Pahang plans to develop an aerospace city in an area of 5,042 hectares in Gebeng here from next year and it should be ready in 2026.
Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the high impact project will also involve the transfer of the existing airport to a new area and subsequently support the 3rd national physical plan as integrated national transit development (air , land and sea) in the area.
He said that when completed, the project would also include an international airport and world-class aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services.
According to him, the market value of the MRO sector in the Asia-Pacific region for the next 20 years is estimated at RM15 trillion and with the opening of the city, Pahang is expected to reap 1% or RM 150 billion for 20 years. years. or RM 7.5 billion per year.
“The project will be implemented as a private finance initiative (PFI) with the company Pahang Corporation Sdn Bhd (PahangCorp) linked to the state government,” he said.
He said this in a press release after witnessing the signing of the MoU between Pahang Secretary of State, represented by Secretary of State Datuk Seri Dr Sallehuddin Ishak and PahangCorp Managing Director Mohd Khusaini Harumaini.
In addition, Wan Rosdy said the Aerospace City will provide industrial sites for aviation-related industries that could attract the interest of large companies in manufacturing aircraft and aircraft components.
The construction of the city also took into account other economic pole factors as it is located close to the Gebeng industrial zone, Kuantan port and the east coast rail link, besides serving as the main gateway to the east coast states.
It will also create 50,000 jobs in the aerospace and non-aerospace sectors, he added.
“I hope that the plan to establish the aerospace city of Pahang will make the state the main choice for investors seeking to invest in the country depending on the services provided and the strategic geo-economic factors of the east coast,” he said. he declared.
